Level A protection provides the highest safety during a Haz-Mat incident because it includes a fully encapsulating, vapor-tight suit that is designed to protect against the most hazardous materials. This level of protection is used when the type of substance is unknown, when there is a high potential for exposure to toxic vapors, gases, or chemical splashes, and when conditions such as a high temperature or lack of oxygen could be present.

Level A suits are equipped with a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to ensure that the wearer has a clean air supply, further enhancing safety. This level is essential in situations where there is a significant threat to the individual's health from the hazardous material, as it entirely covers the body and minimizes the risk of any exposure.

The lower levels of protection, such as Level B, C, and D, are appropriate for less hazardous environments or where the specific threats can be managed with lesser equipment. However, they do not provide the same level of isolation from harmful substances as Level A gear does.
